Norfolk County Council have contacted the Parish Council to form us that they propose to make a Temporary Traffic Order affecting Church Road from the junction with Hethel Road westwards for 300m until the first bend. This is because of new water connection.

The road will be temporarily closed (except for access) from 16th January 2017 to 27th January 2017 for the duration of the works, expected to be about 11 days within the period. They suggest using Mill Lane for access beyond the closed section.

On Saturday, very early (for me), Motion Bear Media started filming scenes for a video commissioned by Norfolk Constabulary. They had obtained prior permission to use the field and I was pleased to offer them access to the facilities within the hall. Just as well since it was a cold and damp day; hot drinks were a must.

Crew & Police Officer

Motion Bear Media is a business venture staffed by students from City College Norwich. They apply their learning and skills for real on live contracts. In this case they are producing a video for the training of police personnel on the subject of vulnerable people – Saturday’s scenes related to a child alone in a park.

Officer approaches girlCar Scene

The police officer (a real one!) observed a young girl (not an actor) apparently alone and unsupervised in a park, considered that there might be an issue and approached her. On gaining her confidence, he took her to the police car in order to take her back home. A simple scenario but one needing tact and care.

Squeaky kitMuch effort was put into making the visuals right, as you might expect, but to see the sound crew gathered around the play equipment to capture the essence of the squeaky chain, and, so many times an empty plastic bottle was recorded dropping onto the ground and bouncing about.

The girl’s parents were on hand to reassure their daughter; her brother and sister kept her feet firmly on the ground! Filming requires much standing around, repeating actions, repeating lines and scrutiny of sound and video. The supervising lecturers made sure the crew were fully focused on progressing the shooting schedule. Even so they did not finish until 11am!

Since it is a police training video it is unlikely that we’ll get to see the finished result. But, it was interesting to watch it being made and to see the two characters played with effortless ease even with the crew gathered closely around them.

On 6 December 2016 the Secretary of State approved an Order to make the whole of England an Avian Influenza Prevention Zone for 30 days, in order to help protect poultry from a strain of Avian Influenza in Europe.  Welsh and Scottish Governments have also introduced identical measures.

Outbreaks of a highly pathogenic strain of Avian Influenza have been confirmed in poultry and wild birds in several countries in Europe. No cases have been found in the UK and this Order is a precautionary measure to help prevent potential infection from wild birds. Poultry keepers are being urged to reinforce biosecurity measures at their premises.

This Prevention Zone introduces mandatory enhanced biosecurity measures and requires the immediate housing of all poultry, or where this is not practical, their separation from wild birds. Other captive birds should also be kept separate from wild birds. Keepers should also ensure that poultry and other captive birds are provided with feed and water that is not accessible to wild birds.

The full Order and its requirements can be seen here –  Avian Influenza Prevention Zone declaration

Further information regarding the latest situation can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/avian-influenza-bird-flu#prevention-zone

Poultry keepers should keep a close watch for signs of disease. If they have any concerns they should seek prompt advice from their vet.

Members of the public are also being asked that if they find dead wild waterfowl (swans, geese or ducks) or gulls, or 5 or more dead wild birds of other species in the same location, they report them to the Defra Helpline on 03459 33 55 77.

There have been several instances of the theft of lead from Church roofs reported in the press recently.

The police believe a blue Seat Alhambra may be involved. They ask you to ring 999 if you see this vehicle or anyone acting suspiciously near a Church. Please do not approach them yourselves – just ring 999, advise them of your suspicions and quote “Operation Randell”

Wreningham’s last remaining red Phone Box is under threat and will be removed by BT unless the community adopts it, and finds a new use for it, within the next few weeks.

Wreningham Parish Council wants your views about the community adopting the box and finding a new use for it. Or would you prefer to see it go?

It also wants to hear if you have any good ideas about what it could be used for and if you are prepared to help to turn your ideas into reality.

Other villages have used their old phone boxes in a wide variety of ways: as art galleries, lending libraries, cafes, notice boards, tourist / local information centres, plant swap shops.

Please contact parish councillor Keith Morris with your ideas or offers of help at keith.morris@networknorwich.co.uk or on 01508 488318, before the next parish council meeting on November 15, when the idea will be discussed and a decision taken.

BT have set a deadline of December 14 for a decision otherwise it will be lost to the community.

You can find more details of the adopt-a-kiosk scheme here.
