A resident contacted us about their pet’s painful death from poisoning. The vet thought the animal may have consumed some poison embedded in a bait, possibly targeting vermin.
Most people take care to use poisons properly. However, a small mistake may bring death or injury to a wider and undifferentiated group of animals found in a rural community: cats, dogs, hedgehogs, birds, ducks, deer, etc. The hurt extends to the owner and their family, and can carry a significant cost when trying to save the animal.

We have received notification from NCC that the road though Top Row will be closed from 15 January to 18 February. This is to enable work to replace the water main through Top Row to go ahead.
As yet we do not know precisely what this means for residents in Top Row and will seek clarification in the next few days. Will Top Row residents make sure they and their neighbours are aware of this planned closure.

This is early warning of a talk by the Archaeologist, John Newman, who worked on the 2014 dig at the Bird in Hand.
The talk will be held in the Village Hall on 16th February 2018 at 8pm. Mr Newman will talk about the finds from the Bird in Hand and also discuss potential for further finds from the planned Summer dig in the village. Meeting information on the Summer 2018 Dig.

We have received a request to publicise the work of a Charity, Solo Housing, within the South Norfolk. Solo Housing is a charity supporting the single, homeless in East Anglia, based in Diss, and is funded by South Norfolk Council.
Their aim is to help by providing accommodation from their Register of Landlords and Landladies. This accommodation is predominantly ‘lodgings’ – their own room with shared use of the rest of the property. They also offer advice and support to both the client and landlord/lady throughout the placement, if required.
There is a constant demand for this type of rented accommodation as ‘lodgings’ are affordable by those on low incomes. This means, of course, that there is an ongoing necessity to recruit new providers.

The Chief of Police for Norfolk has announced changes to policing in Norfolk.

23 August – Update
From next week Anglian Water will commence their 6 month project to upgrade the water supply within Wreningham. See previous posts.
There are two preparatory tasks for them to address:

To install a temporary pipe in Mill Lane to maintain the water supply during the project.
-
To establish the project / site base behind the pumping station on Mill Lane.
1. Mill Lane pipe.
This will connect one side of the village supply to another during the whole of the 6 month project. Once the project is complete then the pipe will be removed. The objective is to provide an alternative supply line and thereby ensure the water supply has as few supply suspensions as possible during the next six months.
Next week the pipe will be laid to connect the “Wash Out” point on the Village Hall plot (in the corner nearest the school) and the Fire Hydrant near 41 Mill Lane.
The 6” diameter pipe will be laid around the extreme edge of the hall grounds, exiting through the hedge onto Mill Lane verge. It will continue along the South side verge of Mill Lane to near 41 Mill Lane. The pipe will cross several field gateways and one residential driveway. In those cases the pipe will be placed in a shallow trench to ensure the access remains unobstructed.
2. Project / site base.
The area behind the pumping station on Mill Lane will be used to hold construction materials, site offices, parking for equipment and vehicles, etc. This will mean that Anglian Water traffic will be using Mill Lane throughout the project. Users of Mill Lane need to consider this as well as the planned road closures already posted.
It is hoped to post in the near future, the name and contact details of the Anglian Water site manager should residents need to discuss issues.
29th July
Last month we warned of the intention by Anglian Water to undertake significant roadworks on all the roads within the Wreningham & Top Row. They have just contacted the Parish Council to confirm that they are replacing the cast iron water pipes across the village. See their letter – Water Mains Replacement
They are arranging for a community drop-in on 15th August from 2 pm to 8 pm in the Village Hall. They invite you to come along and find out more about what is planned and how it will affect you.
Many Parishioners have asked the Parish Council to do something about speeding through the village in addition to the law, official speed limit signs and our regular use of the speed reporting device. We asked SNC and neighbouring parishes about our options. They reported that speed stickers on wheelie bins to remind drivers of the 30 mph speed limit seem to be effective. So, we have a supply of stickers and will be distributing two to each household within the 30 mph zone in the next few days.
Please note that SNC ask that these are affixed to the bins as shown in the image – i.e. on the side and not over the SNC logo on the front of the bin.
