The Village Village Hall Committee, which is organising the fireworks display for 3rd November, has obtained a temporary road closure notice for Mill Lane – either side of the Village Hall. Details below:

There are a few things to think about for this event. This check-list is designed to help us, and you, to be fully prepared for a successful pick! But above all to have a safe and enjoyable time.
Gather at the Margaret Preston Room in the Village Hall.
You will be assigned one of the following:
Ashwellthorpe Road
Church Road
Hethel Road
Mill Lane
Playingfield
Top Row
Wymondham Road.
We will issue the litter pick equipment. South Norfolk Council will supply: Litter Pickers / Waste sacks – one type for recycling and one for non-recycling / Hi-viz jackets.
We will confirm main details with you (your collection area, duration of the pick, risk assessment and priority to recycle where possible in the sacks provided).
Note that the items that can be recycled in your recycling sack will be: Plastic bottles, tins, cans, paper, card, tetra-paks, plastic food trays, foil trays and glass bottles.
Go to the furthest end of your assigned area and commence the litter pick on the way back.
Only pick litter in public areas (roadway, verges, ditches (if safe to do so), open spaces). Do not enter private gardens or driveways.
Do not pick items up with your hands, only use the litter pickers.
Remember to be considerate to your community and environment.
Take Care! Especially when picking near traffic. If you have children with you, please make sure that they are appropriately managed and assisted on the day.
We may record names of those involved and take pictures as SNC expect to draft press releases for the events in the district.
Place your waste sacks in the Hall’s main car park.
Return the equipment and any unused bags.
Come into the Margaret Preston room where we expect to have snacks and drinks available for all volunteers – do stay and chat with others.
We will provide SNC with our event records and they will calculate the amount of litter collected. Once they receive this information they will enter the village name into as prize draw for £200 towards Hall funds.
SNC will arrange to collect the waste bags.
As mentioned on this website and in the Mardle we are working to improve the facilities in the Village Hall. The Margaret Preston Room is the first significant sign of this work. Jon Moon has installed modern and attractive doors and windows to replace the rather dilapidated and rotting wooden predecessors.

Wreningham has paid a special tribute to a well-loved local postman – Pat Maidment – with a community meal and his own special postbox erected at the village hall.
Known, of course, as Postman Pat, he lived in the village for over 30 with wife Jill. Pat worked for the Post Office his whole career from the age of 16, until he died last March, aged 60, from a brain tumour.
After a community Sunday lunch in the village hall on March 4, around 40 family and friends gathered together outside the hall to watch Pat’s brother Mark unveil the special black postbox, which had been erected on the wall of the hall by some of Pat’s many friends in the village.
Friend Trevor Wadlow said: “There was a strong feeling in the village that we wanted to do something to recognise what a truly memorable and well-loved character Pat was and a postbox seemed a fitting tribute. We hope it will help preserve fond memories of Pat for us all for many years to come.”
Pat and Jill moved to Wreningham in 1986 and Jill said Pat worked for the Post Office since he left school at the age of 16. He started as a messenger boy and then became a postman, based at Thorpe Road in Norwich.
Commenting on the tribute, Jill said: “It means a lot to me and the family. I knew he had a lot of friends in the village, but it is great to know that so many people genuinely liked and thought well of him. It is comforting to know he is well thought of and people still think of him now. A postbox is an entirely appropriate memorial.”

You will have seen the advertising for the 3 monthly carveries (first Sunday of the month) to be held in the hall. Well, the first opened to a full house. With a maximum of 70 covers, we had 50 pre-booked and another 15 or so turned up on the day, everyone was well pleased with the food, the service and the atmosphere. The caters served the food quickly and professionally – all soon had their plates laden with good portions of meat, yorkies and vegetables. They even managed to cater for those who preferred a vegetarian option. The bar was open and did a brisk service in beer, wine, spirits and soft drinks.

The wifi service is now available for the community to use within, or in the vicinity of, the Hall.
There are 6 wireless networks available – all commencing with the letters “WAP” – 3 operating at 2.4GHz and another 3 at 5GHz. We have measured the download speed at nearly 80Mbps and upload at 20Mbps.
Select the network and log in through the Wreningham Community Hub homepage. Password access is currently not required, but that may change. When you use the service please be aware of the Terms & Conditions.

Trainer
The Parish Council arranged free training on the use of the AED now installed on the Village Hall wall.
We know that many villagers have attended such training at work but now we have a further dozen with potentially life saving knowledge. All agreed that they had learnt a lot from their session.
Some villagers did ask how AED awareness training could take two hours.
Well, the trainer did covered a lot of ground: recognising a heart attack as opposed to cardiac arrest; applying CPR; the use of the AED; and, placing the patient in the recovery position. With questions and discussion our session took just over two hours – time well spent.
