3-9-2024 Community Action Norfolk update

Welcome to our update for Village Halls, Parish Councils, sports, and recreational groups. Please share with colleagues and friends and if they would like to receive our newsletters directly they can get in touch here. We have included funding, training opportunities, and resources related to what you do.

If there is something you would like to know more about, do get in touch.
We want to know how we can help you to make energy efficiency and environmental improvements to your community building.  We have lots of resources to help you decide what measures you could make, and how to improve your chances of securing funding to make them, but we need to know what help and support you need.  To get a better picture, we have put together a survey so we can see what areas of support you need most.

We know you get asked to complete a lot of surveys, and really appreciate your time in completing this one.  With enough evidence, we hope to be able to offer the support you most need in your area.

Reports and Resources
Martyn’s Law – Many of you are concerned about the impact of the proposed Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Bill.  The government has indicated that this is a Bill that they will be enacting, but details have not been finalised.  ACRE has made representations to reduce the impact of the Bill (as it was last seen) on charity run community buildings and village halls.  When there is an update we will share it, along with any resources.  You can find more here

A Design Guide: Building Tomorrow’s Rural Communities – The English Rural Housing Association and partners have launched a guide aimed at transforming the perception of affordable rural housing. The guide includes a practical toolkit for villages looking to inform the design of new homes in their community.  Find out more here. If this is of interest to your community, please contact us to talk to our Rural Housing Enabler.

The Importance of Vetting Charity Trustees – Vetting Trustees is a small process with sometimes large consequences.  Many charities are unaware of the process involved or mistakenly think that this means carrying out a DBS check.  In this article we discuss the importance of vetting your Trustees in light of the recent high profile disqualifications of  Captain Sir Tom Moore’s daughter and son-in-law.

Refreshed Charity Guidance for Councils In this article, we shared the news that the Charity Commission has contacted local authorities with refreshed guidance to remind them of their responsibilities as a trustee.  Locally, we offer regular Trustee Training sessions, and are holding two sessions aimed at Parish Councils in October, through Norfolk Association of Local Councils; Clerking for Charities, and Charitable Trusts and Parish Councils.

Is your community worried about the cost of energy? We can deliver a free, in-person energy efficiency awareness session to help.  If you have a regular event and think this presentation would be helpful, we can come to you and share with your community: how to be more energy efficient and reduce the cost-of-living impact by making small changes in the home.  Sessions can be followed by one-to-one support to go through individual annual statements and talk about options.
If you would like to book a session for your community please contact us.  Alternatively, if you are interested in attending an online session yourself, please click here
