You will recall Keith calling for support to address a number of tasks in the playing field.

So on Thursday morning we gathered on the playing field. As you can see Keith, Ian, Nick, Hughie and I (the photographer, at that point) were quite busy for three hours. We dismantled the swing in readiness for the next working group (26 September) when the ground level balance beam will be constructed. A new basketball net was installed. A barrier was constructed around the zip-wire platform. The platform uprights were cleaned and wood splinters removed with some holes filled with wood filler. Cracks and gaps in the tarmac around the skateboard equipment were filled to reduce a trip hazard.

Now some of the tasks from Keith’s list have been completed but there is still plenty to be done by the next working group – see you there!

Friday morning, Hughie, Ian, Nick and I assembled the new bench on the Reading Room. Whilst the instructions were generally straight forward, sometimes a short debate was needed to translate the ideal into reality. The 140Kg bench was secured in place by driving two fixing posts into the ground – this was a tiring task and needed us all to take a turn with the sliding hammer; and then it was done. Time to try it out:

Lastly, the Top Row noticeboard had become rather wobbly. This might not have been helped by a large willow tree falling on it. So on Monday morning, Hughie and I secured the noticeboard with a baton screwed to the fence.

A village needs on-going maintenance to be available for everyone to enjoy what it has to offer. The volunteers involved in the work described above provided their time and effort freely. I am grateful for their engagement, good humour, tools and expertise. Thank you.
