You will be aware of the recent Met Office amber weather warnings in Norfolk. This hot weather increases the likelihood of outdoor fires and the threat of wildfire – Norfolk Fire & Rescue Service have had to deal with a higher than usual number of outdoor fires so far this year.
The fire crews are dedicated to preventing these fires from occurring and fighting them when they do – but they need the help of the public.
What3words
Emergency services, including Norfolk Fire & Rescue Service, across the UK use what3words to pinpoint where emergencies have occurred. This is particularly useful for incidents that occur in remote or rural locations. They suggest you download the what3words app on a mobile or tablet device.
As an example of use:
Say you discover a fire in the car park at Long’s Wood on Wymondham Road. The app would provide a location in three words: e.g. “blinking reference lions” (see https://w3w.co/blinking.reference.lions). These would inform the fire service of exactly where the fire is, as opposed to a long verbal explanation about roads, distances and landmarks.
Campaign
