It is a public page, open to all and we want to hear your news, events and information about the village and everything that happens here.

New police community support officer for Wreningham

Wreningham has a new police community support officer, PCSO Darrin Sore, following a reorganisation of local Police boundaries.

PCSO Sore covers the Mulbarton and Hethersett area and has recently had Wreningham and four other small villages added to his extended area. He now covers 18 villages with 15 parish councils.

He paid a first visit to Wreningham Parish Council on November 10 and has also been to the village school and will be doing an assembly there in the near future.

PCSO Sore told the parish council that he has been in the role for 11 years and was a “feet on the street type of Police officer”.

He reported to the council on local crime statistics, saying there had been one reported local crime in the last month when a car at The Poplars in Wreningham had had a brick thrown through its window and a handbag snatched by two men who drove up in a car.

Over 50 artists to display work in Wreningham exhibition

Wreningham Village Hall Management Committee presents its 15th Annual Art Exhibition on 10th and 11th October featuring the work of over 50 artists, together with demonstrations of artistic technique.

Each year, the exhibition widens its exhibitor list and the range of styles and media.  Exhibitors from over much of Norfolk and North Suffolk will be displaying work in watercolours, oils, acrylics and mixed media on glass and canvas.  All the framed work and sculptures displayed, totalling over 150 items, is for sale with prices ranging from £15 to £275.  There are also a large number of unframed works, prints and greetings cards for sale.

This year, the range of styles has been widened to include crafts and you will find stained glass, wooden jewellery, painted stones, cushions, textiles and wood turning together with a number of photographs, sculptures in metal, wood or plaster and ceramics alongside traditional hung artwork.  Many of the artists have their own studios, hold their own exhibitions or display their work at the Royal Norfolk Show so you can be sure of seeing work of exceptional quality and skill.

Well-known Mulbarton artist Chris Scales will be demonstrating his work on Sunday from 3pm.

The preview evening on Friday 9th October (8 pm – 10 pm, admission £2.00) is a perfect opportunity to meet some of the artists and snap up chosen pieces in advance whilst enjoying a relaxing drink from the licensed bar.

The exhibition continues on Saturday 10th – Sunday 11th October between 10 am and 4 pm and can be found at Wreningham Village Hall, Mill Lane, Wreningham, NR16 1AN, situated on the B1113, about 6 miles south west of Norwich. Admission each day is £1.50 for adults, children are free.

The exhibition is part of a major fund raising programme for Wreningham Village Hall and over the last four years the committee has been working on a project to improve the heating and general environment within the main hall and provide better facilities for its users. To date they have re-roofed the building and increased substantially the amount of insulation.  The windows to the north of the building have been replaced with PVC triple glazing and a more effective and economical heating system is in place.  The last stage is to install a heat recovery extractor system and money is being raised to fund this.

Wreningham School is “outstanding” says Ofsted

Wreningham Primary School is “outstanding” according to Ofsted inspectors following a glowing report released in September.

The school was told by inspectors that it is “outstanding” in all five categories – leadership and management, behaviour and safety of pupils, quality of teaching, achievement of pupils and early years provision – after a two-day visit in July.

The report builds on an already positive “good” rating from 2009.

Inspectors noted a “relentless focus on improving achievement” from school leaders, leading to excellent standards in teaching.

They said: “Teamwork is a strength of the school. All staff have high ambitions for the pupils and work well together to make sure all pupils succeed.

“Teaching is outstanding because teachers have high expectations of all pupils. They plan activities that enthuse the pupils and make them think hard and persevere with their learning.”

The report also said pupils’ behaviour is “impeccable”, they feel “exceptionally safe” in the school and are prepared for “life in modern Britain”.

Rob Jones, headteacher, said: “Our school motto is ‘team’ and the outstanding grade confirms that ‘together everyone achieves more’.

“We have strived to create an ethos where children, parents,
staff and governors can work together, providing the best opportunities for all the pupils to flourish.”

He said that work by the staff “enables our children to be the best they can be” and thanked parents for their support.

“The fact that we are a small, local school helps us foster a caring, family environment, with every child knowing they are a ­­­­­­valued and integral member of our school and its success,” he said.

“Although we have attained good test results, our approach is to develop the whole child through a creative curriculum, where sport, music, art, and drama are valued equally as highly as test results.”

Have your say on Church Road development

The property company behind the Church Road development of ten homes in Wreningham is to hold an open consultation for local residents on August 19.

Julian Wells of FW Properties has invited local residents to view the proposed development of ten new homes on Church Road, Wreningham and give their views.

The site has been identified by South Norfolk Council as their preferred location for new homes in the village as outlined in their draft Local Development Framework Strategy.

The developer is holding a consultation event at the Bird in Hand in Wreningham between 4pm and 8pm on August 19, 2015 when local residents are invited to view the plans and to make any comments they wish on the proposals.
