All Saints, Wreningham

The Church Warden, Christine Minns, writes:

“Wreningham church would like your help. Our church is normally unlocked during the day time and we are always pleased when people visit providing they respect what it stands for. However, we have recently had a visitor who was really not welcome or needed.

Somebody has taken the church key and a number of small items amongst them a small cut glass dish and lid, 2 small glass carafe stoppers, a tapestry book mark (used in the Bible) and a number of new flags (of the kind we fly from the tower). If you know where these are or who may have taken them, perhaps you could encourage them to return the items. In the meantime, I ask everybody who uses Church Road to be extra vigilant both by day and night and report any suspicious activities. I have informed our PCSO and asked that the police keep an extra watch on the church for the time being.”

23 August – Update

From next week Anglian Water will commence their 6 month project to upgrade the water supply within Wreningham. See previous posts.

There are two preparatory tasks for them to address:

  1. To install a temporary pipe in Mill Lane to maintain the water supply during the project.

  2. To establish the project / site base behind the pumping station on Mill Lane.

1. Mill Lane pipe.

This will connect one side of the village supply to another during the whole of the 6 month project. Once the project is complete then the pipe will be removed. The objective is to provide an alternative supply line and thereby ensure the water supply has as few supply suspensions as possible during the next six months.

Next week the pipe will be laid to connect the “Wash Out” point on the Village Hall plot (in the corner nearest the school) and the Fire Hydrant near 41 Mill Lane.

The 6” diameter pipe will be laid around the extreme edge of the hall grounds, exiting through the hedge onto Mill Lane verge. It will continue along the South side verge of Mill Lane to near 41 Mill Lane. The pipe will cross several field gateways and one residential driveway. In those cases the pipe will be placed in a shallow trench to ensure the access remains unobstructed.

2. Project / site base.

The area behind the pumping station on Mill Lane will be used to hold construction materials, site offices, parking for equipment and vehicles, etc. This will mean that Anglian Water traffic will be using Mill Lane throughout the project. Users of Mill Lane need to consider this as well as the planned road closures already posted.

It is hoped to post in the near future, the name and contact details of the Anglian Water site manager should residents need to discuss issues.

29th July

Last month we warned of the intention by Anglian Water to undertake significant roadworks on all the roads within the Wreningham & Top Row. They have just contacted the Parish Council to confirm that they are replacing the cast iron water pipes across the village. See their letter – Water Mains Replacement

They are arranging for a community drop-in on 15th August from 2 pm to 8 pm in the Village Hall. They invite you to come along and find out more about what is planned and how it will affect you.

 

 

Circus Ferrel

Circus Ferrel is returning to Wreningham playing field. It was last here in May 2015 for 2 or 3 days. So expect to see them on the playing field setting up either on Sunday 17th September or early the following morning. Wednesday evening they be gone – just like that! Access to the play equipment will be maintained.

The school children will have several workshops in the tent with two shows for them and their family and friends: one Tuesday and another on Wednesday. Additional information will be posted when received.

Organising & Managing Volunteers

South Norfolk Council are running free information sessions to help residents make the most of skills  available within the community.  They call them “Pick ‘N’ Mix Bitesize Learning” and will be held on the last Thursday of every month, in different pubs across the district. There are 20 bookable places on each; contact volunteering@s-norfolk.gov.uk to book a place.

The first three sessions have been confirmed:

  1. How to get more volunteers, and keep them! – Thursday 28th September:  6:30pm – 9pm, The Old Feathers, Framingham Pigot
  2. How to set up a community group – Thursday 26th October:  6:30pm – 9pm, The Artichoke, Broome

Draft Norfolk Strategic Framework – Consultation

The Norfolk Planning Authorities are consulting on a draft Norfolk Strategic Framework document. This is prepared jointly by Breckland Council, Broadland District Council, Broads Authority, Great Yarmouth Borough Council, Borough Council of King’s Lynn & West Norfolk, North Norfolk District Council, Norwich City Council, Norfolk County Council and South Norfolk Council.

The document explains the main demographic, household and employment forecasts and how these affect the future development needs of the County, outlines national planning policy requirements, and includes high level visions relating to the economy, climate change, housing, quality of life and the environment.

The public consultation runs until Friday 22nd Sept 2017.  Comments on any aspect of the document but do make it clear which section/paragraph number(s) your comments relate to. A response form is available on their web site at https://norfolk.citizenspace.com/consultation/norfolk-strategic-framework . This is their preferred response method. Hall Dining

You will have seen the advertising for the 3 monthly carveries (first Sunday of the month) to be held in the hall. Well, the first opened to a full house. With a maximum of 70 covers, we had 50 pre-booked and another 15 or so turned up on the day, everyone was well pleased with the food, the service and the atmosphere. The caters served the food quickly and professionally – all soon had their plates laden with good portions of meat, yorkies and vegetables. They even managed to cater for those who preferred a vegetarian option. The bar was open and did a brisk service in beer, wine, spirits and soft drinks.

Wheelie Bin – Speed Stickers

Many Parishioners have asked the Parish Council to do something about speeding through the village in addition to the law, official speed limit signs and our regular use of the speed reporting device. We asked SNC and neighbouring parishes about our options. They reported that speed stickers on wheelie bins to remind drivers of the 30 mph speed limit seem to be effective. So, we have a supply of stickers and will be distributing two to each household within the 30 mph zone in the next few days.

Please note that SNC ask that these are affixed to the bins as shown in the image – i.e. on the side and not over the SNC logo on the front of the bin.

The wifi service is now available for the community to use within, or in the vicinity of, the Hall.

There are 6 wireless networks available – all commencing with the letters “WAP” – 3 operating at 2.4GHz and another 3 at 5GHz. We have measured the download speed at nearly 80Mbps and upload at 20Mbps.

Select the network and log in through the Wreningham Community Hub homepage. Password access is currently not required, but that may change. When you use the service please be aware of the Terms & Conditions.
