About Michael Hill

Wreningham Parish Council Chair

A Parish Council work party gave the village playing field a spring clean and make-over on Saturday April 8.

From 8.30am to 3pm several hardy souls undertook to clean up the playing field and the play equipment on it. Jon put his pressure washer to good use and washed away years of grime from the zip wire platform, the skate park, the shelter, the table, swings and dolphin. Josh, Hughie and Michael worked on the grass covered mats – lifting them, cleaning away layers of earth and grass, and then replacing them. The turf came in handy to restore the grass under and around the shelter. Anne applied the graffiti remover with vim & vigour to the skate park. Meanwhile Keith fitted a set of goal nets onto one of the goal posts and cleaned the posts before helping with the mats.

Thank you everyone for your work. Especial thanks to Christine for allowing us to connect to her tap to provide water for the pressure washer.

So much done and still more to do. We will be arranging for at least one more day of effort to tackle the equipment we did not have time to spruce up. Watch out for announcements, we would love to see more helpers.

The following e-mail was received from Pentaco this morning:

You are undoubtedly aware that the works along Church Road are progressing apace and there is a reasonably increase in vehicle movements in and around site. This is unfortunately a consequence of the restricted area for site parking and the external works now required to complete the project. To mitigate this problem and prevent vehicles parking on the surrounding highway, we have made an informal agreement with the landowner to form an area of parking on the field behind, with access off Hethel Road.

We have discussed with the planners at South Norfolk and they have agreed to this temporary arrangement with immediate effect for a period of approx 6 weeks.

We trust you will agree this is of benefit to all parties and will hopefully allow the development to be concluded with minimal disruption to the residents of your parish; however if you wish to discuss any of the above, please do not hesitate to call or visit Dean on site.

Many thanks for your continued co-operation.

Following a report about the trees on Parish land, the Council commissioned Paul Reeder to undertake some trimming, felling, cutting out and tidying up of the trees around the Village Hall, at the back of the “Reading Room” and beside the children’s play area on the playing field. The first two are well underway as I write this. The latter is planned for next Wednesday, 22nd February 2017.

If you or your family are in the playing field on Wednesday, take care.

Last year we had a successful Litter Pick in the village and lots of fun doing it. Besides £20 for registering our Litter Pick, we won £200 in the South Norfolk Council draw for club funds. This year the Litter Pick will be on 30th April. Further information will be posted on this site or on the village noticeboards. SNC information is here.

Do contact us on info@wreningham.org if you want to help organising it, take part, or have suggestions to improve on last year.

A fourth act of vandalism to property belonging to the developers on Church Road has been reported.

Besides being pointless, this just raises the level of insecurity along Church Road, with the builders and in Wreningham as a whole. Where a person has a grievance about some aspect of their life then they should address it in a manner which does not cause concern to others about their property or themselves.

From March the houses will start becoming available for occupation by people new to the village, or indeed some villagers who are thinking to move house within the village. Petty vandalism is not the way to present Wreningham or its residents.

As far as we are aware, no other incident has been reported in Wreningham. If you do see anything untoward or are a victim of vandalism you should inform the Police as soon as you can.

Ricochet TV asked us to inform you about their new television show for BBC, “The repair shop” ( repair shop flyer ). Their team of experts include trades such as blacksmithing, ceramics, clockmakers, upholsterers and carpenters. The show looks into repairing beloved and interesting possessions for people who would like to see them restored or repaired back to their original working order.

They have looked to include items ranging from pocket watches to grandfather clocks, rocking horses to drawn carriages, from toy cars to VW campers. Communities, too, may have items that are important to them: e.g. memorial plaques; eroded statues; snapped weather vanes; broken sun dials; cracked gargoyles; fading carvings, etc.

The show will feature sentimental/interesting items in need of repair and will feature the repair-work of some items in the show with a community value, are treasured or, are essential to communities, but which may have an interesting story and purpose.

If they accept it for the show, the item would be repaired at their repair shop (a barn outfitted for their experts) and returned to the community at no expense to its owner. There would be broadcast TV coverage from start to finish of the item, in the work shop and when it is revealed to the owner or community.
