Oil purchase scheme for parishioners

The village collaborative heating oil purchase scheme is now being managed by John Knight.
Every quarter in February, May, August and November, he will collate all the oil requirements from those parishioners who have registered an interest in this scheme. The May order is now being considered and he is busy contacting potential oil suppliers with a view of placing an order around Thursday 3rd May.
So, if you require oil, let him have your order no later than Tuesday May 1st along with any specific delivery requirements you may have (i.e. limited access for vehicle, urgently required, etc.).
Be sure to give him the information (name, address, phone number, e-mail, oil tank location) necessary to effect an order on your behalf. Note: the supplier will bill you for the amount ordered/delivered; John does not handle the money.
If you have friends or neighbours that you know use heating oil, please pass on his contact details so he can include as many in the scheme as possible, and thereby be in a better position to negotiate a lower price for everyone.

Bramble Bears @ 50

Bramble Bears Playgroup celebrates its 50th year Anniversary

This April, in 2018, Bramble Bears Playgroup in Ashwellthorpe, Norfolk will celebrate its 50th Anniversary with a drop-in event for the community as well as all past and present families who attended the playgroup.

Bramble Bears playgroup, originally named Ashwellthorpe Village Preschool began in 1968 with a few local families from the village of Ashwellthorpe and was run by parents. The playgroup has grown and grown and been well attended throughout the years and still remains a proud part of the community today. In 2016, Bramble Bears was featured in the EDP newspaper following a very good Ofsted report.

The playgroup is proud of its heritage and its child-led approach and ethos. Bramble Bears in still run today by a committee of parents and has a very good staff team. Over the years the playgroup has formed excellent links with local schools and child minders in the area.

To celebrate its 50th Anniversary Bramble Bears Playgroup is having a community drop-in event at Ashwellthorpe Village Hall on Saturday 28th April between 11am-3pm. Activities include a village bear hunt, a display of old photos and memorabilia, raffle, name the bear competition and bear biscuit decorating. Come and join us for anniversary celebration cake, everyone welcome!

If you have any further information or observations on the consultation report which you believe might be relevant to our assessment we would be pleased to hear from you. If you do not intend to send us any further comments we would be grateful if you could let us know so that we can proceed with the case. We will consider all representations made before finalising our assessment and making our recommendation. We will notify you of the Secretary of State’s decision in due course.

Village Tidy Checklist

Planning for our Village Tidy on 22 April 2018

There are a few things to think about for this event. This check-list is designed to help us, and you, to be fully prepared for a successful pick! But above all to have a safe and enjoyable time.

Before the 2pm start

  1. Gather at the Margaret Preston Room in the Village Hall.

  2. You will be assigned one of the following:

    • Ashwellthorpe Road

    • Church Road

    • Hethel Road

    • Mill Lane

    • Playingfield

    • Top Row

    • Wymondham Road.

  1. We will issue the litter pick equipment. South Norfolk Council will supply: Litter Pickers / Waste sacks – one type for recycling and one for non-recycling / Hi-viz jackets.

  1. We will confirm main details with you (your collection area, duration of the pick, risk assessment and priority to recycle where possible in the sacks provided).

  2. Note that the items that can be recycled in your recycling sack will be: Plastic bottles, tins, cans, paper, card, tetra-paks, plastic food trays, foil trays and glass bottles.

The litter pick

  1. Go to the furthest end of your assigned area and commence the litter pick on the way back.

  2. Only pick litter in public areas (roadway, verges, ditches (if safe to do so), open spaces). Do not enter private gardens or driveways.

  3. Do not pick items up with your hands, only use the litter pickers.

  4. Remember to be considerate to your community and environment.

  5. Take Care! Especially when picking near traffic. If you have children with you, please make sure that they are appropriately managed and assisted on the day.

  6. We may record names of those involved and take pictures as SNC expect to draft press releases for the events in the district.

Upon returning to the Hall

  1. Place your waste sacks in the Hall’s main car park.

  2. Return the equipment and any unused bags.

  3. Come into the Margaret Preston room where we expect to have snacks and drinks available for all volunteers – do stay and chat with others.

  4. We will provide SNC with our event records and they will calculate the amount of litter collected. Once they receive this information they will enter the village name into as prize draw for £200 towards Hall funds.

  5. SNC will arrange to collect the waste bags.

Margaret Preston Room improvement

As mentioned on this website and in the Mardle we are working to improve the facilities in the Village Hall. The Margaret Preston Room is the first significant sign of this work. Jon Moon has installed modern and attractive doors and windows to replace the rather dilapidated and rotting wooden predecessors.

Community groups – funding available

 £50k for community projects

Are you a community group looking for funding? South Norfolk Council has Community Action Fund grants available from £1,000-£15,000 to support projects and initiatives that benefit local people. Last year the Council funded a range of projects including play equipment at Breckland Park in Costessey, an automatic watering system at Wortwell Bowls Club and a trailer for Norfolk Knights Wheelchair Rugby Team.
