It is with great sadness that I report the death of Maurice Green, a longtime resident of Wreningham.
Born in Portsmouth, he grew up in Duxford with five siblings, four sisters and a brother. Maurice was a practical young man with a preference for metalwork and mechanics over more theoretical subjects. He excelled at sports and became an ABA Eastern Counties boxing champion. He had a variety of jobs, including dairyman, driver, working with thoroughbred race horses, and as a coalman. Maurices’ love of horses was central to his life; he was a steward at the racing track in Wreningham.
His passion for horses was shared by Pam. They married in 1967, the next year Nick was born, followed by Darryl in 1973. The Greens stabled their horses at Hill House Farm where they supported Mr & Mrs Peel and eventually inherited the farm. An easy going man with simple tastes, Maurice did not do holidays, he worked hard and enjoyed his dog, a simple life, his family, his horses and, of course, his Massey Ferguson tractor.
He passed away in the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital being treated for cancer. He leaves behind his wife, Pam, his two sons, Nick and Darryl and Nick’s partner, Annie. His cremation was held at Breckland Crematorium on 13 May 2020 and following his wishes, his ashes will be scattered across the fields on his farm.
His family are grateful for the many tributes, flowers and cards received and ask that any donations be made to the Norfolk and Norwich Colney Centre.
Norfolk County Council’s Cycling and Walking team are working on a project to improve waymarking and access on the historic Kett’s Country Long Distance Path, a 17-mile recreational walking route between Wymondham and Norwich.
This project also involves the creation of five brand new circular walks to connect local communities to the linear route and other green spaces. The long-distance path and all circular walks will be following existing public rights of way or quiet roads.
This is due to be completed by March 2022 with improvements to access and sign installation due to take place from March 2021.

Co-incidently, this morning an email came from Lastpass (a password manager I use) about a “world celebration” for passwords. I thought I might share their blog item on the subject here. And, in the spirit of even-handedness: there are other password managers available!
What is Healthwatch Norfolk?
There is a statutory requirement for Healthwatch organisations to exist in each top tier local authority area in England. Healthwatch Norfolk is a registered charity and a statutory member of Norfolk’s Health and Wellbeing Board and has a role to represent the voice of patients, service users, carers and the public at the highest strategic level.
Your experience of accessing information, care and support during COVID-19
Healthwatch Norfolk are encouraging you to share your experience of using health and social care services since the outbreak of COVID-19. They will use this to pass constructive and supportive information to service leaders.
The spread of the virus has led to unprecedented changes to the way patients and service users receive care: pharmacies are struggling to keep up with demand for medication; many GP appointments have been postponed or conducted remotely; and strict protocols have been implemented in hospitals and care homes to prevent infection.
The survey is an opportunity for you to say anything relating to care and support since the outbreak of the virus. Healthwatch Norfolk are particularly interested in hearing about:
- Quality of local information and advice about coronavirus
- Your experience of urgent and emergency care
- Experience of health and social care routine appointments
- Communication from NHS Trusts, councils and charities
- Managing your mental and physical health at home
- Advice for individuals and families in self-isolation
- Caring for someone in isolation
- Access to dentistry in Norfolk
- Positive experiences and messages of support for health and social care staff
As emergency plans to support Norfolk’s population are rolled out across the county, Healthwatch argue that listening to the public is pivotal to ensuring that the health and well-being needs of people are met.
