Planning for our Village Tidy on 22 April 2018

There are a few things to think about for this event. This check-list is designed to help us, and you, to be fully prepared for a successful pick! But above all to have a safe and enjoyable time.

Before the 2pm start

  1. Gather at the Margaret Preston Room in the Village Hall.

  2. You will be assigned one of the following:

    • Ashwellthorpe Road

    • Church Road

    • Hethel Road

    • Mill Lane

    • Playingfield

    • Top Row

    • Wymondham Road.

  1. We will issue the litter pick equipment. South Norfolk Council will supply: Litter Pickers / Waste sacks – one type for recycling and one for non-recycling / Hi-viz jackets.

  1. We will confirm main details with you (your collection area, duration of the pick, risk assessment and priority to recycle where possible in the sacks provided).

  2. Note that the items that can be recycled in your recycling sack will be: Plastic bottles, tins, cans, paper, card, tetra-paks, plastic food trays, foil trays and glass bottles.

The litter pick

  1. Go to the furthest end of your assigned area and commence the litter pick on the way back.

  2. Only pick litter in public areas (roadway, verges, ditches (if safe to do so), open spaces). Do not enter private gardens or driveways.

  3. Do not pick items up with your hands, only use the litter pickers.

  4. Remember to be considerate to your community and environment.

  5. Take Care! Especially when picking near traffic. If you have children with you, please make sure that they are appropriately managed and assisted on the day.

  6. We may record names of those involved and take pictures as SNC expect to draft press releases for the events in the district.

Upon returning to the Hall

  1. Place your waste sacks in the Hall’s main car park.

  2. Return the equipment and any unused bags.

  3. Come into the Margaret Preston room where we expect to have snacks and drinks available for all volunteers – do stay and chat with others.

  4. We will provide SNC with our event records and they will calculate the amount of litter collected. Once they receive this information they will enter the village name into as prize draw for £200 towards Hall funds.

  5. SNC will arrange to collect the waste bags.

As mentioned on this website and in the Mardle we are working to improve the facilities in the Village Hall. The Margaret Preston Room is the first significant sign of this work. Jon Moon has installed modern and attractive doors and windows to replace the rather dilapidated and rotting wooden predecessors.

See the photographs, or better still, come and have a look for yourself.

Mill Lane – Work to improve pedestrian safety

Work to install a new pedestrian safety barrier at the entrance to a school field on Mill Lane is due to start on or shortly after Monday 9 April 2018 for one week. Note that the start date may change slightly as this work is part of a series the contractors will be working on and there may be unforeseen delays or hold-ups due to poor weather.

Work to widen the pavement at the site will also be done at the same time. Due to the limited road widths available, a road closure has been deemed the safest and quickest way to complete these works and a signed diversion via Mill Lane, C129 Church Road, B1113 Norwich Road and Mill Lane will be in place throughout. Vehicular access to properties may be restricted during working hours however pedestrian access to properties will be maintained.

The County Council thanks you for your patience while this work is carried out.

The work which will cost £1,600.00 will be carried out by Norfolk County Council’s Community and Environmental Services Department and their contractors.

The public consultation on the Greater Norwich Local Plan (GNLP) which opened on 8th January closes at 5pm on 22 March 2018 (see www.gnlp.org.uk for details).

It is important to note that this is a consultation – no final decisions have been made on any policy choice or site. The consultation will include:

  • a Growth Options document setting out the broad housing numbers required to 2036;
  • six main distribution options;
  • a significant number of questions on various policy areas (such as air quality, landscape and affordable housing); and,
  • the Site Proposals document, listing sites submitted for consideration for various uses through the plan, along with a settlement summary for those parishes where sites have been submitted.
  • (The Wreningham Site Proposal plan is here: GNLP_Wreningham.)

The Housing and Economic Land Availability Assessment (HELAA) in the evidence base has more detail on the sites submitted for potential inclusion in the GNLP. Other evidence studies, along with the Interim Sustainability Appraisal, will also be available for comment.

The public consultation roadshows’ venues and dates are published on www.gnlp.org.uk.

If there are any questions, please email LP@s-norfolk.gov.uk.
