Chances – for Employment in Norfolk

The Chances Team has asked us to post the following.

Chances have worked with over a thousand Norfolk residents and have a proven track record of developing individuals in terms of their skills and their confidence making them more job-ready. This is available for our parishishioners to boost opportunities, provide a positive social impact and deliver economic benefit in our area.

Chances is partnership between Norfolk County Council, Future Projects, Norfolk Citizens Advice, Voluntary Norfolk and Citizens Advice Diss & Thetford. We are part funded through the European Social Fund with the remainder of our funding being generated within the county. Chances is delivered locally with a team of experienced Advocates working in each district of Norfolk.

Who is it for?

Chances is here to help people who are:

  • Currently unemployed or unable to go into work (because of health reasons, caring responsibilities etc)
  • Aged 18 or over (16/17 in exceptional circumstances)
  • Live in Norfolk
  • Have the legal right to live and work in the UK
  • Motivated to move forwards and make life changes

What does Chances do?

The Chances team of Advocates offer 1:1 guidance to help individuals:

  • Search and prepare for a job
  • Improve their skills – e.g. through training or education
  • Get into work if they have health issues – e.g. help you access services
  • Overcome practical issues – e.g. finding transport, route planning and childcare
  • Improve their wellbeing through sport and other activities

Your Security

7.20pm.

We have received a report of a domestic burglary in the Church road area in the last hour or two. This seems to be an opportunistic act. Apparently, no-one was hurt and there is no damage to property. A handbag and purse containing money and credit cards were taken. The Police have been called.

Whilst there is little information available it seems wise to remind you to take appropriate security measures for your personal safety and that of your home.

Christmas at the Reading Room

We wish say thanks to all those who made our third annual Christmas Tree event a resounding and enjoyable success – my singing not withstanding! This is especially so with the happy band of some 50+ adults and children who were in fine (and unaccompanied) singing voice for the carols by the tree.

Nick & Sue very kindly donated the lovely Christmas tree which was trimmed and installed by Andrew. Hughie added the lighting and Andrea provided the songsheets. David and Noel looked out for wayward traffic. Santa came, with his elf-helper and her bucket of goodies, to discuss children’s wishes for Christmas. And, last but not least, the children complemented the tree decoration with extra baubles from Santa.

Thanks everyone. Have a Happy and Peaceful Christmas.

Wreningham needs you!!!

Council elections are scheduled for May 2023. It is too often the case that there are insufficient numbers of applicants for the parish and town council positions. For us, this means that Wreningham Parish Council often comprises those deemed to be elected instead of having actually been elected following an election.

Having elected Councillors bring benefits. They are good for:

  • the local community,
  • local democracy,
  • public perception of their council, and,
  • the Councillors themselves as they are elected representatives.

So, we invite you to consider becoming a councillor. Do speak to any of our current Councillors (Andrea, Hughie, Jean, Keith, Michael) or the Parish Clerk (Tina) to find out more, and to express your interest.

Revised parliamentary boundaries 2023 – South Norfolk

The Boundary Commission for England has recently published revised proposals for the new parliamentary constituency boundaries. This is a summary of the proposed changes for South Norfolk.

South Norfolk Council have provided two documents:

1. A spreadsheet to district ward level – you will see that there are significant differences between the initial and revised areas most notably, is that part of South Norfolk is being put together with East and Mid Suffolk. [Coloured in purple for reference.]

2. A basic map showing the boundaries – note that Wreningham is in Ward 13 on the initial proposal map, and Ward 9 in the new proposal.

There does not appear to be an impact for our Ward, Mulbarton & Stoke Holy Cross.
